Himachal Pradesh, located entirely in the Himalayas, was split as a separate state from the Punjab in the mid 1960s. I visted this beautiful area and experienced the wonderful hospitality of its people during a two week visit in October 2008.

One of the more famous places in Himachal Pradesh is Dharamsala where his Holiness the Dalai Lama, along with thousands of Buddhist refugees from Tibet, are currently making their home and are living in harmony with the native Hindu population.

In this gallery, I have captured images of the Hindu people of this Himachal Pradesh, especially its women in their colorful clothing and head gear.First, I present a few portraits of these beautiful mountain women, and then a few images of these hardworking women involved in various farming and other daily tasks.
Lastly, I present a few images of various altars, temples and other relegious activities. The Hindus in this region are ardent worshippers of Lord Shiva and the area is full of temples to this important Hindu diety.
